Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find answers to some questions that are frequently asked by individuals considering enrolling in the THRIVE trial.

You can receive up to $75 for completing all study activities.

If you choose to participate, you will be randomly placed into one of the two study groups (either propofol TIVA or inhaled volatile anesthesia). We will also ask you to complete a series of questionnaires pertaining to your surgery and anesthesia experience both pre- and post-surgery at multiple time points.

No, you will not. This is a double-blind study, meaning that neither you nor the study team will know which study group you are assigned to. Only your care team will be aware of the anesthesia type you receive during surgery.

In addition to your participation on the day of your surgery, the final questionnaire will become available to you 90 days after your surgery. Once this questionnaire is completed, your active participation in the trial is complete.. However, we will continue to use data collected during your participation for future analyses.

We will not be reaching out to participants to share any study results.

Participating in THRIVE is completely optional, so you are free to leave the study at any time. Please contact a study team member to inquire about withdrawing.

If your anesthesia care team determines that one form of anesthesia is superior, you will receive that type of anesthesia and you will be withdrawn from the study.
